AJ Colby Education
Colby received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University in “Arts and Sciences.” Throughout his high school and college years, and beyond, Fox 8’s very own meteorologist, André Bernier served as his mentor. He helped focus AJ’s collegiate studies on the appropriate classes and experiences necessary to learn about the atmosphere and predict disruptive weather events.
When he was just 16 years of age, AJ had an incredible opportunity to start his career as a television weathercaster at WSEE-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania, the local CBS affiliate. Soon after, WJW Television hired him. This was an amazing opportunity for a 19-year-old college student, and in many ways, unprecedented.
On many of the Newscenter 8 newscasts, AJ filled in and had the extraordinary opportunity to work with heavyweight characters such as the legendary Dick Goddard, Robin Swoboda, Tim Taylor, Wilma Smith, and André Bernier.

Colby serves at Fox 8 as a meteorologist. He grew up in the legendary “Snowbelt.” He knew he wanted to be a meteorologist from a very early age. After a massive tornado outbreak in May of 1985, AJ witnessed the awesome and awful destruction caused by an EF5 tornado in Albion, Pennsylvania. AJ was only 10 years old at the time, but this event indelibly etched fascination, passion, and respect for the weather into his conscience. Ultimately, this deep experience led to a career that would hopefully help people survive by warning people about potentially life-threatening and devastating weather events like the Albion tornado.
When The Morning Show first debuted in the winter of 1988, AJ began reporting local temperatures and snowfall data to various media outlets, primarily to Fox 8’s very own meteorologist, André Bernier. After graduating college, AJ landed his first full-time, on-air position at WICU-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania, the local NBC affiliate. AJ started working full-time in Cleveland in the spring of 2000 and now serves as a staff meteorologist at WJW Fox 8.
