Before she knew it, she was traveling across the country with the College of DuPage, chasing twisters and learning about tornado genesis. Merlot serves at NBC 26 as a meteorologist, appearing on NBC 29 Today morning show. She’s spent more than 8 years on the green screen forecasting everything from snowstorms to tornadoes. Tornadoes, in fact, are what got her started on this path; she grew up in Illinois terrified of them.
Her family was directly hit by a massive F5 wedge tornado that ripped through a Chicago suburb when she was only 5 years old. Brittney joins us after a 5-year stint in Duluth, Minnesota, which she refers to as “Minne-SNOW-ta”!
She began her career at KQDS FOX 21 as a weekend meteorologist and quickly advanced to morning meteorologist and co-anchor. When the pandemic struck, she briefly returned home to be with family before returning to Duluth on weekends to work at WDIO ABC 10.
She mastered the skill of lake effect forecasting while up north and is no stranger to the ever-changing weather we have here. For three years, she was voted Best TV Personality in Duluth, and she enjoys attending community events and getting to know everyone.
So, if you see her around town, please say hello! Prior to joining the Northland, she worked at WIFR CBS 23 in Rockford, IL, and was the Chief Meteorologist at her college station in DeKalb, IL, where she won Best Weathercaster of the Year and was nominated for an Emmy for three years.
