Her first broadcasting career began on the radio while she was still in Illinois. She broadcasted there for a few years while she was in college & had her own show. In 1982, she started at KXAS-TV NBC5 as a full-time reporter, then a lead anchor. She left the station in May of 2012 and joined WFAA.
During her more than 30-year career in television news, she has interviewed celebrities and national leaders including President George W. Bush, First Lady Laura Bush, legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Texas music legend Willie Nelson, Dallas Mavericks owner, and entrepreneur Mark Cuban and popular TV host Ellen DeGeneres.
She has received the National Gracie Award for “Best Local News Anchor in the Country”, a Lone Star Emmy Award for “Best Newscast in Texas” and a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for broadcast journalism.
McGarry is also the founder and President of JaneMcGarry.com, a media company that provides on-camera coaching and media training for corporations and their executives and small business owners. She serves on the board of the AiRS Foundation, dedicated to providing women around the world access to reconstructive breast surgery, and also on the Communications Committee of the world-renowned Dallas Museum of Art. She has an avid interest in social justice and does extensive work with the Black Academy of Arts & Letters.
