As the correspondent for CBS News, Teichner reported on some of the biggest national and foreign events of the period, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Iraq war, the death of Princess Diana, and the life and death of Nelson Mandela. She interviewed world leaders and other television reporters, including then-first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton twice for “CBS Sunday Morning” in 1995 and 1997. Now based in New York, Teichner has spent more than a dozen years as a foreign correspondent reporting global international news.
Teichner was twice transferred to the CBS News London office (1980-1984, 1989-1994), where she covered not only the British royal wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer but also several conflicts as one of only a handful of female war correspondents. Teichner has covered the Maze Prison Hunger Strike in Northern Ireland, the Lebanon War, the First Intifada in Israel and the West Bank in 1988, and the wars associated with the fall of Yugoslavia. She reported on the fall of Communism in Central and Eastern Europe and the Romanian revolution. Teichner has spent several weeks covering covert activities for the Drug Enforcement Department in the Bolivian jungle.
During the Persian Gulf War, she was one of a select number of journalists allowed by the army to join U.S. soldiers. She spent about six weeks in the Saudi desert with the 1st Armoured Brigade but also covered the war in Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, and Israel. Between her two London assignments, Teichner was stationed in Johannesburg (1987-1989) during the last dangerous years of the fight to end apartheid in South Africa. She returned to report on the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, and in 1994 she reported his election as the first black president of post-apartheid South Africa.

Teichner is the author of the nonfiction novel “When Harry Met Minnie: A True Story of Love and Friendship.” The novel was published by Celadon in early 2021. Moreover, it explores the blooming relationship between Carol and Teichner as well as Harry and Minnie, Teichner’s dog.
