Rob Stafford Career / Education
Stafford received a degree in political science and journalism from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn in 1981. He serves at NBC5 News as a main (evening) news anchor, appearing on the 5 PM, 6 PM, and 10 PM newscasts, alongside Allison Rosati. He began as a weekend anchor and reporter at the station, and in July 2009 he now took the position of the news anchor.
Before joining NBC5, Stafford was a correspondent for the award-winning NBC news magazine, Dateline NBC. He joined NBC News in 1996 and served as a consumer reporter and substitute anchor at WBBM-TV, Chicago. NBC In 2006, Rob was fired from Dateline in a cost-cutting move.
Prior to that, Stafford anchored the morning newscast at WFTV-TV in Orlando and founded the station’s award-winning investigative unit. Stafford’s two-year investigative series on hotel crime in Orlando exposed serious security problems and led to a grand jury investigation. In August 2019, Rob was sued against the sterilization solution company Sterigenics during his amyloidosis diagnosis Stafford was exposed to toxic levels of ethylene oxide from the company’s west suburban Willowbrook facility plant. At that time, he lived in Hinsdale and belonged to a sports club in Burr Ridge. Stafford’s lawsuit against the company seeks more than $50,000 in damages. A spokesperson of WMAQ-TV said that Stafford has not been assigned to report on, or read, any stories involving Sterigenics.
