Her husband then had to persuade her to seek treatment. Ultimately, Meade was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer, which required surgery and may have resulted in blindness. Being surrounded by harsh lights, her left eye began having excruciating discomfort. Eye drops started to become useless, and devices simply made it worse.
Eventually, she returned to work, initially just for 1 hour and later for 2 hours. She learned how to manage curveballs and keep progressing. Meade was put in isolation in darkrooms for several weeks off-air without knowing the day when her eye would begin to function as normal. She says that she was trying various methods of keeping herself in control after several years of frustration and stress. Meade eventually recovered and returned to work.
